Architectural door selection combines a design decision with a set of building interfaces. A slim frame, flush wall or oversized entrance only becomes a useful specification when its construction, operation and surrounding details are clear. VARELDO project inquiries can begin with a design brief while the final configuration is still being developed.
Describe the design intent precisely
Provide plans, elevations and a short statement of the intended effect. Identify the sightlines, surface alignment, opening direction, visual proportions and important material relationships. Distinguish requirements that are essential from references offered for inspiration.
For an entrance, show adjacent glazing and the threshold context. For concealed interior doors, include the wall build-up and finished floor level. For a garage door, include the internal space around and behind the opening, not only its exterior elevation.
Make the specification reviewable
| Specification topic | Useful project input |
|---|---|
| Geometry | Opening references, dimensions, units and dimensional tolerances to be agreed |
| Construction | Proposed frame, leaf or panel build-up and relevant interfaces |
| Appearance | Finish references, grain direction, glass appearance and sample expectations |
| Operation | Handing, swing or travel path, hardware and access requirements |
| Performance | Required standard, test method, scope and acceptance criteria |
Material selection alone does not establish fire, acoustic, wind or thermal performance. Any required performance must be checked against documentation for the particular assembly and configuration.
Coordinate samples and drawing approvals
Use a controlled sample reference for visible finishes, particularly when several systems share a façade or interior palette. Review color, gloss, texture and material variation in the intended context. A digital image may guide selection but is not a substitute for an agreed sample when finish matching is critical.
Record comments on a specific drawing revision and close them out before final approval. The pivot door review guide and door schedule template provide structured starting points for this process.
Prepare the handover to procurement
Carry the design intent into an itemized supply brief. State which hardware and glazing decisions are fixed, which are provisional, and who will verify site dimensions and installation conditions. Where drawings are still developing, identify the assumptions so quotation comparisons remain meaningful.
Send your project country, door schedule, reference drawings and technical requirements through Request a Quote. Product suitability, documentation availability and any proposed alternatives require review for the specific project; a catalog image should never be treated as an approved construction detail.
Record a design alternative as a comparable option
When reviewing an alternative, keep the original project requirement visible and identify what changes: clear passage, sightline, threshold, finish, hardware or evidence scope. A similar rendering is not enough to establish an equivalent specification. Ask for the revised section and the effect on adjacent work before accepting it.
Use the entrance collection for movement choices, interior systems for wall alignment, and glass and patio doors for panel storage and thresholds. Keep the design decision separate from the commercial approval while referencing the same configuration.
