A replacement garage door needs a fresh system review, even when the building already has an operating door. Existing dimensions, track positions and electrical arrangements may not suit the proposed replacement. This guide is for builders, installers and procurement teams planning a supply inquiry; it does not offer a local repair call-out service.
Document the existing opening
Measure the finished opening and the space around it, rather than copying the size from an old invoice. Record width and height at several points, floor level, available headroom, sideroom on both sides and backroom. Photograph the opening from inside and outside, including structural obstructions and the route needed to bring components into the garage.
Use the garage door measurement guide for the measurement brief. Mark whether finishes, flooring or structural works are still planned, because these can change the usable opening.
Separate reusable parts from assumptions
| Existing item | Review required |
|---|---|
| Tracks and supports | Geometry, fixing substrate, condition and compatibility with the new system |
| Springs or counterbalance | Suitability for the actual replacement door configuration |
| Motor and controls | Capacity, electrical specification, controls and required safety devices |
| Opening trim and seals | Dimensions, weather interfaces and finished appearance |
| Structure | Fixing conditions and any reinforcement required by the installation design |
No existing component should be treated as compatible solely because it has worked with the old door. Reuse needs confirmation from the responsible technical party and relevant product documentation.
Define the work outside the supply package
Agree who removes and disposes of the existing door, prepares the opening, makes good finishes, handles electrical work and completes installation and commissioning. Identify access restrictions and the arrangements for securing the building while the opening is out of service.
The supply quotation should state which door components and documents are included. Site work, local permits and inspections must be addressed with the responsible local parties; they cannot be inferred from an export product description.
Send a project-specific brief
Provide the country, building use, opening schedule, photographs, preferred replacement system and installation contact. Explain whether the priority is appearance, glazing, access, operation or a documented performance requirement. Where performance is critical, provide the required standard and test scope for review.
Start a project inquiry before choosing a finished configuration. Final suitability, component reuse, supply availability and order terms depend on the particular project. This page does not establish completed replacement projects or local service coverage where those have not been verified.
Plan the period when the opening is unavailable
Coordinate removal, delivery and installation with the local contractor. Identify how the building will remain secure, where components will be staged and what happens if the existing structure differs from the survey. Keep these site arrangements separate from the supplier’s dispatch milestone.
Review feasible configurations in the garage collection and compare the whole operating envelope using the headroom planning guide. Reusing an old track or operator remains a documented compatibility decision, not a default saving.
